Choir Performances

'Agnus Dei' From Fauré's Requiem

'Ave Maria' by Bruckner

One of the many quirks about singing during a global pandemic, is that the livestreaming facilities saw a dramatic uptake; which gives the choir a great opportunity to not only showcase, but also record the music that we sing at mass.

'SICUT CERVUS': SUNG BY PAST/PRESENT GENTLEMEN OF THE CHOIR

This virtual choir came about as a result of Covid-19. Amidst the lock-down, the Gentlemen came together virtually to perform a piece of music that is very near and dear to the Choir's heart. The video was edited and mixed by Shane Barriscale; a present member of the choir.

'Joy to the World!'
on the late
late show

This performance came about, in anticipation of the release day of the Choir's upcoming Christmas CD; appropriately named: 'Joy to the World!'. The CD can be streamed on Spotify and purchased on iTunes.

'Danny boy' by Conor o'reilly: Sung in
St. Patrick's
Cathedral

This recording came from a series of private concerts given by the Choir. It features an evocative arrangement of the 'Londonderry Air', by Conor O'Reilly. Although it's rare, it's  always a pleasure for the Choir to sing in the wonderfully atmospheric and historic St. Patrick's Cathedral!

'Lord of all hopefulness' arr. by david mooney: Sung in carnegie hall

This performance took place on the choir's trip to the US in 2015. The piece performed is one of many arrangements composed, by David Mooney, for the Choir. On the trip, the Choir visited New York, Washinton DC and Pensylvania. However, nothing could compare to the experience of singing in such a prolific venue, like Carnegie Hall!

'Surge, illuminare, Jerusalem' by Palestrina: Sung in St. peter's basilica

Here is a video from the Choir's trip to Rome in 2013. The piece of music featured calls for two choirs, and as such allows a remarkable call and response to take place between The Palestrina Choir and The Sistine Chapel Choir. The Choir was invited to sing at The Epiphany Mass which was said by His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, and was one of his final masses before he retired as Pope.

'Though we are Many' by Bernard sexton: International Eucharistic Congress

In 2012, the 50th International Eucharistic Congress took place in Dublin. 80 years prior (1932), the 31st International Eucharistic Congress took place in Dublin, with the Palestrina Choir being the principal choir, and as such was made the principal choir again in 2012. 'Though We Are Many' was the Official Congress Hymn and was recorded by the choir in 2012. The Choir also released a CD to coincide with the Congress; 'O Sacrament Most Holy', which can be streamed on Spotify and purchased on iTunes.

'Missa Sancti Josephi', By Flor Peeters

Here is a recording of the first two movements from Flor Peeters' 'Missa Sancti Josephi'. It is a favourite of the Choir's and is closely linked with the former Titular Organist of the Pro-Cathedral; Prof. Gerard Gillen, who studied with Peeters in Belgium for many years.

'Jesu Dulcis Memoria' by Victoria

This concert came about during the 75th International Eucharistic Congress. Although it did not take place in Ireland, there were many events held in the spirit of the Congress. The Choir is accompanying a presentation on "Art and the Eucharist", delivered by Dr. Eileen Kane.

'O Sacrum Convivium' by tallis: sung by the Gentlemen of the Choir

'Ave Maria'
by Victoria: Sung by the Gentlemen of the Choir

'Sicut Cervus' by palestrina: Sung by the Gentlemen of the choir

These videos came as result of the Choir's upcoming trip to Belgium in 2010. Under the direction of David Vivian Russell; a former musical assistant of the choir, the gentlemen prepared their own repertoire for the Ghent Music Festival. The motets above show the versatility of the Gentlemen, with Victoria's 'Ave Maria' calling for a double choir; splitting the men into eight separate parts.

'Sicut Cervus': With a Highlight Reel of The 2009 Trip to Yorkshire

This vlog was the brainchild of one of the former countertenors of the Choir; Eoin Conway. It shows some of the beautiful places the choir get to visit! In this instance, we get a wonderful view of York Minster Cathedral, alongside the euphonious harmonies of Palestrina's 'Sicut Cervus'.

Concert excerpts from the 2009 Trip to Yorkshire

This recording comes from a concert in York Minster Cathedral. It exhibits some of the repertoire sung by the Choir. It even demonstrates some of the repertoire sung by the Gentlemen of the Choir.

'Missa Brevis in C', by W.A. Mozart:
Sung by
the Palestrina
Choir

This recording came from a televised mass in 2006 on Pentecost Sunday. It features two movements from Mozarts 'Missa Brevis in C'; the Sanctus and Agnus Dei.

'Deus Meus, adiuva me' Arr. by David Mooney:
At St. Martin's Cathedral, Bratislava

This recording came from the 2004 trip to Slovakia, where the Choir represented Ireland in Bratislava, at the closing of Ireland's EU Presidency. However, this recording came from a concert during the trip, given at St. Martin's Cathedral. It features another arrangement from David Mooney; being his 'Deus Meus, Adiuva Me', a favourite of the Choir’s.
